SLEMAN (BINA MARGA) - Construction of Kentungan Underpass in Delman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region Province continues to be encouraged to be completed on schedule, namely in December 2019.

This was conveyed by the Director General of Highways, Sugiyartanto when observing the Kentungan Underpass (UP) construction site, Friday afternoon (23/03), after being a speaker at the 2019 Civil Engineering Day Seminar at the Unika Atmajaya campus in Yogyakarta.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Yogyakarta Provincial National Road Implementing Work Unit, Wahyu Winurseto explained that the UP was located in the arterial street of the northern part of Yogyakarta precisely at the intersection of Jalan Pajajaran and Jalan Kaliurang.

Wahyu said that the underpass was built to reduce congestion during rush hour. Especially when people drive from the city center (for example UGM) towards Kaliurang (north) and from Adisucipto Airport in the east to the Jombor area in the West and vice versa.

The cost of Rp.101.6 billion UP will have two lanes each with a width of 7 meters and a 0.5-meter wide conblok sidewalk. As a dividing road barrier will be built 1 meter wide. "The UP construction itself is 540 meters long, of which 180 meters are covered. While the height of the closed Underpass is 5.9 meters," Wahyu said.

Wahyu is optimistic that the completion of UP Kentungan will not be delayed from the end of December 2019. He is even trying to be faster in a few weeks, at the beginning of December, because the progress of the current work still shows positive numbers. "Progress is still ahead of the plan. But we are still trying to accelerate such as shift workers and additional tools to make it faster," he explained.

The Director General of Highways advised that during the construction period all stakeholders, both implementers and the road user community, always pay attention to driving safety around the construction area.

"Later when it becomes a road user to remain vigilant, the planned speed is only 60 km per hour and is located on a relatively straight arterial road," he explained. (Ian)
