Head of the National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) Timbul Manahan Pasaribu asserted, all national roads in North Kalimantan (Kaltara) have road handling in the form of preservation, capacity building and road construction. He said this when accompanying a working visit (Kunker) of the House of Representatives Commission V to Kaltara on May 2-3, 2017.

Responding to information from the Governor of Kaltara Irianto Lambrie related to frequent landslides in several national road spots there, Timbul said, BPJN XII this year has allocated work packages to handle landslides on national roads. If it turns out that the package budget is insufficient, it will add a new package with the remaining funds from the auction results.

"The Bulungan-Tanjung Selor-Tanjung Redeb boundary often landslides, especially in KM 28, for that we have even prepared material handling and equipment not far from the location if another landslide occurs again," he continued.

The handling of the 48km-long Bulungan-Tanjung Selor boundary along the national road is targeted to be completed next year. Whereas for the Bulungan-Tanjung Redeb-Wahau boundary, Timbul admitted that the new handling was carried out according to the needs in the field or spot by spot, because the road segment was quite long, namely 110 Km.

Kaltara Border Parallel Road
On the same occasion, the Head of BPJN XII also conveyed the related handling of parallel border roads in Kaltara. This year, there were two forest clearing packages worked by the Army Engineer with each package worth Rp30 billion. Timbul revealed, starting this year until 2019 (multi-year contract) there is also a semi-permanent bridge construction package at the parallel border.

"The value of the work is Rp207 billion, which the contractor Istaka Karya is working on with PT Cahaya," he continued.

In addition, on the border road there is also a development package for the Long Boh-Long Bawang road which is a multi-year project (2017-2019) with a length of 29 Km. Timbul stated that in general the Malinau-Long Bawan-Long Midang section has successfully cleared the forest, but the geometric grade is still high.

"For 2018, we plan for Long Nawang-Long Midang to be continued with asphalting, but also to continue clearing the North Kalimantan-Malinau border forest," he explained.
