Maros — The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets the construction of the 2.8 km Maros Flyover on the South Sulawesi Central Cross Road, the Maros-Bone Section, to be completed on schedule, September 2018. The Maros Flyover was built to overcome the conditions a road that has steep inclines and narrow and narrow bends that is prone to accidents and long traffic jams.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said the completion of the overpass will increase the comfort and safety of traffic, especially logistics transportation so it does not rotate.

"Logistics transportation from Makassar to Bone or vice versa, can pass this road along 166 Km, shorter distance than turning through the South Sulawesi Road which is 350 km," said Minister Basuki during a working visit to review the progress of the Maros Flyover.

Before the overpass was built, there were 8 sharp curves with a 5 meter wide road, now only one bend with a road that is widened into 2 meters of the shoulder, 7 meters of the road and 2 meters of the shoulder so that vehicles can travel at speeds of 40 km / hour.

Of the total length of 2.8 km, 313 meters of elevated construction. "Overpass construction is carried out only because the area is a protected forest area and is a tourist route," he explained. The Maros Flyway can be a tourist route such as the Kelok 9 Bridge in West Sumatra because in the area there are also Bantimurung-Bulusaraung National Park attractions that are known for waterfalls, butterfly habitats and karst areas.

Head of the Makassar XIII Road Implementation Center (BBPJN), DGH Miftachul Munir said to improve the safety of road users from falling stone debris, the PUPR Ministry will install nets with a strength of up to 17 tons. "The handling of roads in Segments 2 and 3 is also carried out this year in the form of improvements to the stability and geometric of the road," he said.

This elevated road is a package for the construction of the elevated road segment I, which was carried out since December 2015 by BBPJN XIII. The construction cost is Rp 169.74 billion with the contractor PT. Wijaya Karya cooperates with PT. Hutama Karya. The construction progress has now reached 90%.
