The House of Representatives Commission V Team conducted a Recess (Kunker) Working Visit to Barru Regency, South Sulawesi on Monday (1/4) to review the railroad tracks and also the condition of national roads in the region. For information, this train line is the first railroad track in Sulawesi which is planned to connect the Makassar area to Parepare.

The construction of the railroad tracks had an impact on national roads including crossing a plot and also a waterway. Therefore, the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR through the National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN) XIII will continue to coordinate with the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation to find the best solution.

Regarding the water crossing to the highway due to the railroad embankment, Miftachul Munir as the Head of BBPJN XIII explained to the members of the board and also the Regent of Barru that this was due to a change in the capacity of the waterway.

"So far the water crossing has been calculated as capacity is adjusted to the culverts and cross buildings and bridges, but with the railroad crossings in the form of piles, there is an unbalanced water flow balance," he said.

While regarding the level crossing between the highway and the railroad tracks, it needs to be discussed and agreed on whether the highway or railroad tracks will take the form of overpasses.

"Regarding the design of a level track, so far it has not been known who overpasses whether a highway or a railroad track. If the overpass is a highway then the gradient of 4% automatically makes the oprit long enough. Conversely, if the train is overpassed, we hope in the middle there are no pillars because they are accident-prone, "continued Munir.

The House of Representatives Commission V member also reviewed the handling of national roads in the Maros-Barru-Parepare section. This section is the main link of the South Sulawesi route with West Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi.

"In general, the South West Sulawesi crossing in Java is likened to Pantura, because this section is a logistical pathway whose condition is relatively good because in terms of capacity it is sufficient, which is 2 x 2 lanes. However, there are some concrete points broken due to soil conditions unstable and currently we are repairing, "he explained.
