The award was given to alumni who achievers in a career and be an example in the field of water resources.
The award was presented to Arie on October 19, 2017 at the opening ceremony of the academic year and the annual award for IHE Delft alumni and will give an explanation of his experiences at a seminar at IHE Delft.
Arie Setiadi, who started his career at the Ministry of PUPR since 1986, has held various strategic positions. Before becoming Director General of Highways, Arie served as Head of Research and Development (Balitbang) Ministry of PUPR.
In addition to a brilliant career, Arie also carried out self-actualization and completed the Hydrological Engineering program at IHE Delft in 1990 and became the first to receive the IHE Delft Alumni Award, which originated from Asia. Arie has been proven consistently and professionally and has integrity in working and building infrastructure in Indonesia.

Some important projects that have been carried out by Arie in Indonesia include:
1. Leading integrated research programs, which include technical and social aspects related to the development of urban areas in Indonesia, such as Semarang and other cities;
2. Arie has collaborated in writing guidelines for the Development of Urban Polders in Indonesia. The guide contains the effects of land subsidence and sea level rise, so polder construction is one of the solutions that should be considered in the face of flooding in coastal cities. This guide is now used by practitioners in Indonesia.
3. Arie's other contribution was to create a traffic management system design along the northern Java road, thereby reducing the number of accidents during that period compared to the number of accidents that occurred in previous years.
Besides that, it also encourages the application of Corrugated Mortar Foam (CMP) Technology that saves costs up to 70% and up to 50% of the processing time. The technology was applied when building the Dermoleng, Klonengan, Kesambi, and Kretek Flyovers which were completed in less than 4 months. The presence of the four flyovers is helping the smooth flow of Lebaran homecoming in 2017.
4. For Delft IHE, Arie is the ambassador who initiated the collaboration between Delft IHE and the Ministry of PUPR in the field of water capacity research and development. Under Arie's leadership, many staff in the Ministry of PUPR were encouraged to continue their education either master or doctoral as well as short courses related to water resources at IHE Delft. (*)
