Ban bekas dikategorikan sebagai limbah industri yang bila dibiarkan begitu saja tentu akan mencemari lingkungan. Seiring pertumbuhan ekonomi negara kita, jumlah ban bekas akan semakin meningkat. Oleh sebab itu pengolahan ban bekas menjadi isu penting guna penyelamatan bumi. Salah satu pemanfaatan ban bekas dalam bentuk Crumb Rubber dalam bidang perkerasan dengan menggunakan sebagai bahan tambah pengikat campuran beraspal. Makalah ini bertujuan mengkaji teknik pencampuran crumb rubber ke dalam aspal agar didapatkan bahan pengikat aspal dengan karakteristik yang diinginkan di laboratorium. Crumb Rubber yang digunakan sebagai bahan tambah merupakan hasil dari pengolahan ban bekas dengan metode ambient procsess. Hasil kajian di laboratorium menunjukkan bahwa, komposisi contoh uji yang terbaik adalah yang memiliki kadar karbon tinggi (60,14 %), kadar debu kecil (7,57 %), plasticizer content (4,95 %), dan acetone extract (7,84 %). Kondisi optimum pencampuran aspal dengan Crumb Rubber untuk skala laboratorium adalah dengan kecepatan pengadukan 6.000 rpm, didapatkan pada temperatur 140 oC dan lama pengadukan selama 60 menit.

ABSTRACT
Scrap tires are categorized as industrial waste which if left unused will certainly pollute the environment. As our country's economic growth, the number of scrap tires will increase. Therefore, the processing of scrap tires become an important issue in order to save the earth. One use of scrap tires in the form of crumb rubber in pavement is as an additive in asphalt mixture. This research aims to examines the technique of blending crumb rubber into asphalt in order to obtain asphalt binder with desirable characteristics in the laboratory. Crumb Rubber used as an additive material is the result of scrap tire processing with ambient procsess method. The results of the laboratory study showed that the best sample composition was high carbon content (60.14 %), small dust content (7.57 %), plasticizer content (4.95 %), and acetone extract (7.84 % ). The optimum condition for laboratory scale of asphalt mixing with Crumb Rubber has been obtained on 6,000 rpm stirring speed, at temperature of 140 oC and 60 minutes stirring time.
