Abstract
Sifat ekspansip dari suatu jenis tanah yang dapat mempengaruhi kestabilan suatu konstruksi misalnya ppada gorong-gorong, jalan, dan sebagainya. Sifat ini umumnya terjadi pada tanah yang mengandung mineral monmorillonitc dan berbutirhalus. Tanah yang berbutir halus menarik air lebih banyak karena luas permukaanya lebih besar.
Pondasi tiang yang dimasukan pada tanah ekspansip ini akan terpengaruh dan menimbulkan gaya angkat (ufplifi forces) sebagai akibat dari tanah yang mengembang (swelling).
