Rock Correction Issues in Compaction Specifications for High Gravel Content Soil

Trr No. 1462 Soils, Geology, And Foundations, pp. 3-9
The results of a survey of several large onstruction companies in the southwestern United States revealed that antractors have a great deal of experience with scalp-and-replace rock arrection methods and apparently not as much experience with rock ,nrection equations, particularly in highway work. Although contrac,r, may tend to have most of their experience with scalp-and-replace ,ethods, many engineering testing firms tend toward the use of rock ,rrection equations. Given the significant variation in computed rela e compaction that can arise from the different rock correction methd.. well-written compaction specifications for high gravel content ,ils, explicitly stating the technique for rock correction in compaction mtrol, are a must. An understanding of the potential differences in ),,k correction methods. by contractors and engineers alike, should duce conflicts and future problems with the compacted fill.
