TRR 1171. Effect of Inclusion of Oil Shale Ash on Behavior of Asphalt Concrete

Trr 1171
Oil shale ash is one of the few materials that is expected to be in vast oversupply in the future in Jordan. The purpose of this study Ls to investigate the effect of oil shale ash on properties of bituminous concrete. To achieve this objective, oil shale ash was added to bituminous mixtures in different ratios. Marshall stability, Marshall immersion, and resilient modulus tests were performed on the mixtures. Results indicate that oil shale ash produces paving mixtures that have higher Marshall stability and resilient modulus than do paving mixtures without ash. The experiments also indicated that oil shale ash reduces the potential of stripping in bituminous mixtures.
