Urban bus systems play a critical role in ensuring efficient, affordable, and sustainable mobility within cities. This study explores field survey techniques and analytical approaches used to evaluate the performance and service quality of urban bus operators. The research focuses on primary data collection methods such as on-board passenger surveys, roadside observations, driver interviews, and GPS-based vehicle tracking. These techniques are employed to gather data on operational parameters including travel time, headway adherence, passenger load factors, dwell time, and route reliability.

The analysis integrates both quantitative and qualitative methods. Statistical tools are used to assess service efficiency, punctuality, and demand patterns, while user perception surveys provide insight into passenger satisfaction, safety, and comfort. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data visualization techniques further support spatial and temporal analysis of service coverage and operational performance.

Findings highlight key challenges faced by urban bus operators, such as traffic congestion, inconsistent scheduling, and fluctuating passenger demand. The study emphasizes the importance of data-driven decision-making and recommends strategies including route optimization, real-time monitoring systems, and service frequency adjustments to improve overall system performance.

This research contributes to the development of practical frameworks for transport planners and operators to enhance urban bus services, ultimately supporting more reliable and user-centered public transportation systems.
