Guide to Road Design Part 8: Process and Documentation

Design is a product and the systems that are put in place should conform to the model for Quality management systems – requirements, set out in AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008. Part 8 of the guide to Road Design provides guidance on the application of that standard to road design (Section 1.2). The design of road infrastructure projects is a complex and iterative process it requires a team of appropriately educated and experienced people to produce the design. Good design requires an appropriate matching of personal skills with the stage of the design being considered. Good design should be tailored to meet the needs of current and future generations through the integration of many factors which might generally be described as including user safety, workplace safety, environmental protection, social advancement and economic prosperity.
