Increased Bearing Capacity and Increased Pavement Service Life Using Steel Reinforced in Asphalt Pavement
Steel reinforcement nets in bituminous asphalt layers to prevent longitudinal cracking of asphalt pavements due to frostheave has for years been successfully used in Norway. In addition, steel reinforcements improve the bearing capacity of the road structure. The increase in bearing capacity can be calculated and designed theoretically. Methods and principles are shown.
