Flexible Pavement Behaviour Under Tropical Conditions A Case Study In Malaysia

A large sum of money has been spent to maintain the road pavement in a serviceable condition. In order to economize on maintenance cost, efforts are being taken to understand the pavement behaviour under Malaysian climatic conditions and to address the pavement problem according to the modes of distress. The common causes of pavement distress in this country are cracking caused by reflection, cracking from the exisitng pavement, and age hardening of the bituminous surfacings. Rutting is not a major problem except in highly stressed areas. Some early findings from the research work are presented in this paper.
