Prediction of bituminous sealant-aggregate bond strength and curing time using a newly developed blister test

Hot-poured sealants are commonly used to fill and seal cracks or joints in pavements. Their primary purpose is to prevent water and debris from entering the joints or cracks and ultimately. Accelerating the deterioration of the pavement, In order for a sealant to be effective, it must fill the crack and adhere to the crack walls. However, in many cases, a sealant debonds from the crack walls prematurely. Studying the causes of this premature failure requires a test method which can measure the strength of a bond accurately. This paper introduces a new blister test to measure bond strength. After examining the test's feasibility and validity, the newly developed blister test was used to examine the effect of curing time on bond strength between crack walls and sealant.
