This document gives the engineer step by step procedures for the selection and design (including examples) of various bearing types and is based on the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications. It discusses the following bearing types: elastomeric pads, reinforced elastomeric bearings, pot bearings, lubricated bronze and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) sliding surfaces. Included with the document is a spreadsheet (on diskette) for the design of steel reinforced elastomeric bearings.
