The durability and maintenance costs of concrete highway bridge decks are highly dependent upon the care excercised during the consstruction phase, including attendant activities during the preconstruction and post construction periods. recommendations relative to these periods are presented, covering the areas of design considerations, inspection, preconstruction planning, falsework and formwork, reinforcement, concrete materials and properties, measuring and mixing, placing and consolidation, finishing, curing, post construction care and the use of overlays.
