The provisional Australian mix design procedure was developed to meet the demands of
today's traffic and to respond to changes in road construction and management philosophy.
The new procedure aims to be:
• performance related
• able to produce mixes with improved service properties (particularly rut resistence)
• affordable in terms of new equipment cost, and
• rapid and easy to use.
This paper gives an overview of the development and approach adopted in the Guide.
