Numerical Study on High Stiffness Segmental Joints of Shield Tunnels

Deep buried drainage shield tunnels have the characteristics of large buried depth and high inner water pressure. The load effect of high inner water pressure and large earth pressure causes the increase of bending moment and decrease of axial force in the joint section. To meet the requirements of bearing capacity and deformation of lining structures, high stiffness segmental joints (HSSJs) with complicated structural styles and high bearing capacity are put forward to use for deep buried drainage shield tunnels. The three-dimensional finite element method is applied to study the mechanical characteristics and failure modes of the HSSJs. On the basis of numerical simulation results, the optimization method for HSSJs is proposed, which could provide references to the design and construction of similar projects.
