<note>The Kutai Kartanegara Suspension Bridge, located in Tenggarong, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, was one of the longest suspension bridges in Indonesia at the time of its completion. Inaugurated in 2001, the bridge was designed to connect Tenggarong Seberang and Tenggarong across the Mahakam River, serving as a vital transportation link to support regional economic growth, mobility, and infrastructure development. With a main span of approximately 270 meters and a total length of about 710 meters, the structure reflected modern bridge engineering practices adapted to local geographical and environmental conditions.

The bridge utilized a suspension system supported by two main pylons and steel cables, carrying vehicular traffic across the river. However, on November 26, 2011, the bridge catastrophically collapsed during maintenance work, resulting in significant casualties and raising serious concerns about structural safety, maintenance procedures, and engineering oversight. Investigations revealed that contributing factors included structural fatigue, inadequate maintenance practices, improper tension adjustments of the suspension cables, and weaknesses in supervision and quality control systems.
