<note>Rutting has been one of the major problems in asphalt pavement engineering since it deteriorates not only performance but also serviceability of the pavement. Proper evaluation oh rut depth can be an essential factor for economic management of asphalt pavement. This study describes a prediction method of rut depth in asphalt pavement which consists of pavement materials characterization, structural analysis and rut depth evaluation. Effectiveness of the method is examined through comparison with the experimental data obtained from a full-scale road test. An attempt is made to evaluation rut depths in asphalt pavements with a crushed stone base-course which have experienced excessive rutting. It is shown that the prediction method gives reasonable estimates of rut depths and their variations with load applications for the asphalt pavement with a slag base-course. For the pavements with a crushed stone base-course, it is suggested that better estimate can be obtained by taking into account a deteriorated state of the material.</note>
