<note>The design of risers for Floating Production Systems( FPSs) and Tension-Leg Platforms (TLPs) requires recognition that risers form a subsystem that is an integral part of the total
system. The presenceo f riser systems within anF PS has a direct and often significant effect on the design of all other major subsystems. Their presence and influence generates load
case conditions that must formpa rt of the basis of design and load case matrixo f the WS. just as the characteristics and behavior of the other FPS subsystems influence the basis of
design and load casem atrix for the riser systems. The relationship between riser design and W S g lobal design is particularly close. Therefore, the designer shourlde cognize the need to interact with engineers for the other major subsystems, such that mutual needs and conflicts can be accommodated to ensure the designo f a safe, practical FPS.
