Comparison of Various Structural Safety Tunnel Calculations in Soft Soil

Structural safety in the design process of civil engineering structures may be dealt with in sevveraal ways. The uncertainty is mostly handled with bymeans of partial safety factors, The Dutch guidelines for bored tunelarebased on the partial safety factor approach and the compositions methodoff elements. They are nowadays-accepted methods of analysis. The use of full probabilistic approaches is not extensive yet, depite their ability to reduce the ucnertaint associated to the design of civil structures. This paper gives an example of the use of the full probabilistic approach in the design of bored tunnels.
