This General Report reviewsss a selected group of papers related to “Deep Excavations” as part of the 5thInternatioal Symposium on Geotechnical Aspects of Underground Construction in Soft Ground. The themes of the reviewed papers include theory, design, performance prediction measurement, and performance analyses. Several unusual case histories and failure cases are also discussed and presented in brief as they relate to the overall theme of the session. The papers were reviewed in the context of past confeerences in this series, he goals of Technical Committee 28, and important aspects for design, contruction, and performance of deep excavaations. Concluding recommendaations are made wioth respect to engineering principles and implications related to publication of case historis for future conferences and evolution of the state of the art and practice.
