<note>The literature review showed that RCA combined with natural sand is suitable for structural concrete. However, there are some concerns regarding the long term durability and the use of recycled fine aggregate is not recommended. An experimental programme was devised to investigate the engineering properties and durability of concrete mix designs in which proportions (up to 100%) of the natural coarse aggregates were replaced with RCA. The durability was assessed primarily by accelerated laboratory testing and some larger specimens have been cast for long term natural exposure. RCA was obtained from four sources, two of which were from crushed precast concrete, one was from general demolision waste and one was from a building demolision site.
