  <title>Road Note 43</title>
 </relatedItem>
 <note>The incorporation of suitable reclaimed asphalt in thin surfacing materials is becoming an important issue with the availability of high quantity aggregate resources depleting and with the greater emphasis being placed on sustainability by society. the feasibility of using up to at least 30% has already been demonstreated in trials and on contracts on major UK motorways whils the potential for lower proportions of up to 10% being added on a regular basis has already been accepted for the Highway Authorities Product Approval Scheme. This Road Note is intended to act as a guide to what is considered to be good practice when specifying, designing, producing and applying this appraoch and to facilitate a relatively rapid change to its wider acceptance and use. A method of designing the asphalt mixture taking into account the binder content and binder properties of the reclaimed asphalt is provided. More general advice on the changes needed in the different operations is also given&#13;
