  <title>Advances In Cable-supported Bridges</title>
 </relatedItem>
 <note>Long term planning to meet future traffic demands on the Bronx-Whitestone bridge has many significant challanges. Several traffic studies of the BWB, the Throgs Neck Bridge and the regions' highway network have been performed which indicate that thje traffic demand will continue to increase in the region, particularly at the BWB. Based on these prediction, several planning studies investigating the feasibility of providing for the future traffic demands have been performed. Two main concepts were investigated for increasing traffic capacity; the addition of a second level and the widening of the bridge. Both concepts require cable replacement to accommodate the heavier loads. Both concepts have myriad associated technical challenges as even more significant planning issues such as access, environmental impacts, maintenance of traffic, and flexibility for accommodation future traffic demand</note>
