 <note>There is a need to develop[ a cost-effective construction method for building a self anchored suspension bridge, since this is becoming the new structure type for long span crossings. The challenge is  for engineers constractors to develop such a system that will be cost effective and very constructible. Currently, the methods considered for this structure type are to either build the bridge on falswork, and then erect the main cables and self anchor them, or to build the bridge as a cable-stayed bridge and removing the stays once the main cables are in place, and to self anchor in it. This alternative provides a third option which limits the necessity to build two complete bridges prior to erecting and self anchoring the suspension cables</note>
