 <note>Schools in the outer area tend to have more clearly defined and some what smaller catchment areas with 80 per cent of trips within 2 km, compared to 65 per cent for schools near the centre. Walking is the main mode of travel ranging from 62 to 35 per cent of trips. Bus travel is more important for schools in the inner are where it accounts for 50 per cent of trips. Workplace are mostly located near the centre and draw trips uniformly from all parts of the survey area, with only 28 per cent of trips within 2 km. The outer area locations tend to have more localised catchment areas, with 52 per cent of trips within 2 km, but are less clearly defined. The car is consistently the main mode of travel and accounts for between 40 and 50 per cent of work trips. Bus travel is important for workplaces near the centre, accounting for 34 per cent of trips. The proportion of school and work trips at lunchtime is relatively small.</note>
