The report presents the data obtained from both automatic and manual counts at several motorway sites. Changes in average daily total and peak hour flows and in the 24-hour pattern of flow over a five year period on the M4 near London are recorded. The lane distributions of the vehicle flows at sites on M1, M4 and M6 are presented together with expressions for the flow of heavy vehicles in each lane in terms of total heavy vehicle flow.
